National war heroes' day will be commemorated today (07) and the main event will take place at the parliament ground in Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte this afternoon and war heroes' month also begins today.
The commemoration pays special tribute to war heroes who laid down their lives or received injuries over the past three decades in the fight against terrorism. Several high ranking officials of the armed forces and the Police and other dignitaries will attend this annual commemoration.
The security units point out that this year's commemoration is different from previous years since today's ceremony takes place in a terrorism free country. The ceremony is organised by the Ranaviru Services Authority. Several programmes have been organised at provincial level to commemorate this month. (SST)
